Welcoming all music and food lovers, join us for an enthralling twilight time of traditional Japanese music!
Enjoy an evening of music by the Japanese Folk Duo, Hibiki and Akari, the only professional Tsugaru Shamisen player in Europe and the only Enka (Japanese blues) singer in the UK.
The duo have performed across the world on behalf of the Japanese Embassy. Including UK, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Austria, Iceland, Morocco, Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, Romania, Mauritius and Bahrain.

There will be two performances this evening; first one starting around 19:15 and a second one from around 20:15

HIBIKI ICHIKAWA
London based Tsugaru Shamisen player with over 15 years of experience in playing this unique and fascinating instrument. He first came to the UK in 2011. He was previously granted a 'Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa', and is now permanently settled in the UK. Officially recognised as a world leading talent of Tsugaru Shamisen, Hibiki regularly performs across the UK and Europe.
His professional activities include teaching more than 20 students and collaborating with several musicians and artists in a variety of projects. In 2016, he took part in the recording of the sountrack for the BAFTA-winning stop-motion animated film Kubo and the Two Strings, produced by Laika Studios.
AKARI MOCHIZUKI
Akari Mochizuki, known as 'Mochi', is the only Japanese Enka/Blues singer in the UK. Akari studied drama in Cambridge and modern music in London and started working as a professional singer in 2009. Akari has performed on numerous occasions, including events at the British Museum, WOMAD, Hyper Japan and Japan Matsuri in London. She has also appeared on the BBC Radio 3 programme 'The Verb' and sung Enka songs for the local listeners. Akari has been appointed as Nike's official brand ambassador for DUNK shoes. Akari is a unique bilingual presenter of Japanese music and has performed in more than 17 countries. Akari is the best solution for introducing 'Japanese culture' with music and MC in both Japanese and English.
